Number of invalid ballots lower than in 2007
The number of ballots cast in the June 5, 2011 local elections that were declared invalid is lower than in the June 3, 2007 local elections, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Central Election Commission.
There were invalidated 2.73% of the ballots given to the municipal councils (Chisinau, Balti) and the district councils, as against 4.51% in the elections of 2007. There were declared invalid 3.01% of the ballots for the town councils of Comrat municipality, as opposed to 4.27% in 2007.
1.98% of the ballots were invalidated this year in the election of mayors of towns, the municipality of Comrat and villages, in contrast to 2.35% in 2007.
Also, the invalidated ballots cast for the mayor general of Chisinau represented 1.9% of the total ballots, as against 2.41% in 2007. In the municipality of Balti, the ratio is 1.46%:2.08%.
According to the Central Election Commission, the figures shows that the voters know better the electoral procedures, also due to the voter information campaigns carried out by the electoral authority.
