Offer in vocational education will be adjusted to labor demand

The Government approved the roadmap for developing vocational/technical education for 2013-2014. Among the main provisions is the adjustment of the educational offer to the demand in the labor market.

According to Minister of Education Maia Sandu, there will be improved the methodology of forecasting the demand and made a study of the labor market. The register of occupations will be reviewed and there will be reconfigured the network of vocational/technical institutions through mapping.

“The roadmap is nothing else but a short-term plan of action. Next year, we will start the map-drawing process in vocational schools and colleges. Afterward, we will conduct an analysis to see which of the institutions are relevant and which have capacities and are sufficiently powerful,” said the minister.

Form next September, there will be applied models based on the dual education system, in partnership with the business sector. For the purpose, the legal framework will be modified.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said these changes are necessary as the businesses need skilled workers. One of the best Austrian experts is ready to help Moldova implement this reform.

The document forms part of the strategy for developing vocational/technical education for 2013– 2020.
