Offering of status of observe at Eurasian Union to Moldova to be considered in Sochi

President Igor Dodon will go to the Russian city of Sochi where the Presidents of five countries that are members of the Eurasian Union – Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan ad Armenia – will have a meeting on May 14. The meeting will consider the possibility of offering the status of observer at the Union to Moldova. The announcement was made by President Dodon in the talk show “Direct access” on NTV Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Igor Dodon said that last April he signed a memorandum of cooperation between Moldova and the Eurasian Union and submitted an application on behalf of Moldova for obtaining the status of observer. The status of observer does not go against the agreements that were already signed with the European Union and other countries. “I hope a lot that on May 14 the Republic of Moldova will obtain the status of observer at the Eurasian Union,” said the President. According to him, this status offers the possibility of finding out more about the Union and of obtaining greater access to the Eurasian markets.

The Head of State also said that while in Sochi he will have the first meeting with the reelected President of Russia Valdimir Putin with whom he will discuss a number of subjects from the bilateral agenda. He will also meet with the new Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Belarus.
