Official Chisinau: Tiraspol pursues hidden goals

The unilateral actions of the Transnistrian administration, which recently decided to include a village controlled by the constitutional authorities in the composition of the self-proclaimed republic, point to the existence of hidden interests, different from those shared with the official Chisinau and the whole international community. Such a statement was issued by the constitutional authorities in reaction to the decision of the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk to sign a so-called law on the state border of Transnistria, IPN reports.

According to the statement that was distributed by the Government, the constitutional authorities want the conflict to be settled peacefully, by agreeing a special status for the Transnistrian region as a component part of the Republic of Moldova, which is a sovereign and territorially integral state. “Tiraspol’s categorical refusal to discuss political, institutional and security related aspects in the conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format represents an additional conclusive proof,” reads the statement.

The Moldovan authorities say that instead of promoting the freedom of movement of persons and goods and openness and transparency in the region, the Transnistrian administration by such decisions creates new political, administrative and economic barriers and obstacles, deepening the region’s self-isolation. What the representatives of Tiraspol call ‘border’ is nothing else but an administrative line set temporarily following the signing of the Moldovan-Russian agreement on the peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in Moldova’s Transnistrian region of July 21, 1992.

Chisinau calls on the international partners involved in the negotiations in the 5+2 format to make use of the prerogatives offered by their status and to state their official position on the decision of the Transnistrian administration so that the talks can be continued. The Moldovan authorities will initiate consultations with the mediators and observers with a view to formulating joint positions so as to monitor the situation on the administrative line and prevent new tensions.
