Oleg Efrim requests Vlad Plahotniuc's replacement on Judiciary Reform Council
Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim has requested that Vlad Plahotniuc, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, be replaced on the National Council for the Judiciary Reform, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Council held its first meeting on Tuesday, May 24.
“I submitted a set of proposal to optimize the activity of this council, according to the Government’s vision on it. I think there are some major flaws in the appointment of the council and of its management. I proposed the replacement of Vlad Plahotniuc with professor Igor Dolea, an esteemed member of civil society and a member of the Magistrates Superior Council”, said Oleg Efrim after the meeting.
Oleg Efrim, who co-chairs, together with Vlad Plahotniuc, the National Council for the Judiciary Reform, explained that the Government doubts the First Deputy Speaker’s professional competence in this field. “We think the Parliament has too many representatives in this council. Its management should reflect the goal of the reform. Its leaders shouldn’t raise any doubts or controversies. Otherwise, the whole reform could lose people’s trust”, the minister said.
Answering to journalists,Speaker Marian Lupu said no one had the right to demand anything or to judge others. “Mister Efrim isn’t and won’t be God to judge others. It’s not even his function. The members of the council accepted him, although he’s not a prosecutor. I don’t think he’s making such steps on his own. He’s a tool”, declared the Speaker and chairman of the Council.
