Orhei mayor promises bill relief after water rate hike

The municipality of Orhei has promised to discount water costs for its residents after the Energy Regulatory Agency ANRE in late June increased the rate for individuals by nearly 6 lei per cubic meter.

Orhei Mayor Tatiana Cociu told a press briefing that the municipal authorities are making efforts to keep the population’s utility expenses under control, considering that the ANRE sets water prices based on economic calculations and other factors over which the local administration doesn’t have any influence.

The discount promised by the municipality are for 6 cubic meters of water. “And this is just the first stage. Soon our team will identify solutions to compensate for a larger volume on the bill”, said the mayor.

Tatiana Cociu didn’t provide details as to when the water bill relief scheme will take effect, what the estimated costs are and how the municipality will cover them.
