OSCE wants political stability in Moldova

Petros Efthymiou, president of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, said that Moldova’s progress on the path toward European integration was important for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and for the country’s political stability. The official made this statement during a meeting with the Moldovan Speaker and interim President, Marian Lupu, Info-Prim Neo reports. The interlocutors discussed about the implementation of common projects regarding the promotion of democratic reforms in Moldova and the development of the civil society, including the election monitoring by the OSCE in Moldova. Lupu praised the OSCE and its mission in Moldova for being a reliable partner and mediator in the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. Marian Lupu reiterated the principles that Moldova would follow in this process: a peaceful settlement, resuming 5+2 negotiations, promoting confidence-building measures on the two sides of the Nistru River and assuring foreign partners’ support. The next 5+2 meeting is scheduled for June 2011, in Moscow. Marian Lupu stressed that Moldova pleaded for the official resuming of negotiations in this format. He thinks that all the necessary internal and external conditions exist. Petros Efthymiou proposed to enhance the experience exchange between the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the Moldovan Parliament. The foreign dignitary stressed that OSCE would offer its full support for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict by respecting Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. For this purpose, there is the Group for Moldova within the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
