Over 36,000 inhabitants of Chisinau municipality cast votes by 10am

More than 36,000 residents of the municipality of Chisinau made their choice by 10am. This is about 6% of those put on the voter rolls. The data were presented by the Chisinau District Electoral Council in a press briefing, IPN reports.

In the first round of voting on May 20, the voter turnout at 10am was at slightly over 30,000.

At this hour, the voters in Vadul lui Voda town are the most active ones. A number of 382 voters of the total of 4,612 cast their ballots there. The suburban commune Cruzesti has the lowest voter turnout, of only 43 persons of the 1,469 voters.

At municipal level, the voters aged between 56 and 70 are the most active ones. The most passive ones are those aged between 18 and 25.

There is no minimum turnout of voters required for the runoff vote. The candidate who gains the largest number of votes emerges victorious. The elected mayor will hold office for a year, until the local general mayoral elections of 2019.
