Parliament accepts transfer of six judges from Supreme Court to Appeals Court

Six judges from the Supreme Court of Justice – Ion Muruianu, Nina Cernat, Sergiu Furdui, Eugenia Fistican, Iulia Cimpoi and Svetlana Caitaz – have been transferred to the Chisinau Court of Appeals under a decision adopted by Parliament on Wednesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. After the decision to cut the number of Supreme Court judges from 40 to 33, seven judges – the six named above and Valentin Barba – had to choose whether they resign or are transferred to a lower court. Valentin Barba resigned. Nina Cernat and Ion Muruianu appealed, but the Supreme Court rejected their complaints. The transfer is yet to be endorsed by President Nicolae Timofti.
