The legislative body on December 10 passed the bill to ratify the cooperation agreement between the Government of Moldova and the Government of the United States for facilitating the implementation of the provisions of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). The document allows furnishing the U.S. with information about the investments and bank accounts of U.S. citizens in Moldova, IPN reports.

According to official data, about 700 U.S. citizens opened accounts at Moldovan banks. Moldova signed such an agreement with no other state, but this agreement was signed by the United States and 79 countries, which are largely EU and OSCE member states.
