Parliament appoints new CEC member

The Central Election Commission has a new member. This is the head of the office of the leader of the Party of Action and Solidarity’s parliamentary group Rita Lefter-Simashko, who was appointed to the CEC by Parliament on Thursday, IPN reports.

Veronica Roșca, chairwoman of the parliamentary commission on legal affairs, appointments and immunities, said that if the post of a CEC member falls vacant, the new member is appointed for a fixed term, until the expiration of the Commission’s mandate.

Rita Lefter-Simashko, 35, holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in law. She worked as a senior specialist in a number of divisions of the Chisinau Municipal Council. Later, she served as an adviser in the office of the PAS group’s leader and since May 2023 she had headed the office.

The position of CEC member was recently vacated by Lyudmila Lupashko, who had been appointed to the Commission by Parliament at the proposal of the group of the Party of Action and Solidarity.
