Parliament asked Venice Commission to pronounce on changes to electoral system, MP

The Communist lawmakers demanded that the parliamentary majority should make public the bill with amendments to the electoral system for which Head of Parliament Igor Corman asked for the appraisal of the Venice Commission, IPN reports.

“We didn’t see such a bill. We demand that you present it to all the lawmakers,” Communist MP Grigore Petrenco said in the December 24 sitting of Parliament. He added that this bill wasn’t registered with the Parliament’s secretariat and asked for explanations.

For its part, Igor Corman said he already spoke with Grigore Petrenco about this initiative, but the lawmaker wants to stir things up. “This is an initiative submitted by a group of MPs, which wasn’t yet registered,” stated the Speaker.

The head of the Democratic parliamentary group Marian Lupu intervened, saying any lawmaker can ask the Venice Commission to pronounce on a certain legislative initiative, including MP Igor Corman.
