Parliament doesn’t give vote of confidence to Gavrilița Government

The MPs didn’t give a vote of confidence to the Cabinet proposed by the candidate for Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița. The presentation of the government program, the question and answer session and the speeches took about five hours. None of the attending MPs voted for the proposed government, IPN reports.

Natalia Gavrilița, when presenting her program, criticized the political situation in the country, noting the people want snap parliamentary elections. “The government program with which I came today before the people is simple. It includes measures that can help Moldova move in the correct direction – closer to justice, modernization and economic growth, social protection, pay raises and investment attraction,” started the candidate.

During the question and answer session, a number of Socialist MPs gave a press beefing alongside the party’s leader Igor Dodon, where they said that the presentation of the program was a farce, while the program was a parody. Dodon announced that they have their own candidate for Prime Minister, ex-ambassador and ex-minister of finance Mariana Durleșteanu.

The MPs of the For Moldova Platform, who left the assembly hall at the start of the sitting, issued a statement, saying they appreciate the professionalism of Mariana Durleșteanu. “We will take a decision as to the support for the Durleșteanu Government when the composition of the Cabinet and her government program are presented. But given her bibliography and impeccable professionalism, her qualities, we are today ready to sign in favor of her nomination as a candidate for Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova,” said the MPs of For Moldova.

In his speech in Parliament, PPPDA MP Alexandru Slusari pleaded for an anti-crisis government with a reduced mandate, with palpable and achievable objectives.

The leader of the Democratic Party Pavel Filip said he shares the idea of calling snap parliamentary elections, but someone must assume responsibility for governance and tell the people about this.

Before announcing the vote, the head of the Socialist parliamentary group Corneliu Furculiță announced that a parliamentary majority wad formalized and the relevant statement was signed by 54 MPs. The majority consists of the MPs of the PSRM, For Moldova and three unaffiliated MPs.

Under the law, if Parliament fails twice to vote in a new government and the Constitutional Court ascertains the circumstance’s that lead to the dissolution of Parliament, this is dissolved and snap parliamentary elections are called.
