The lawmakers Tuesday will consider dismissing the president of the Supreme Court of Justice Ion Muruianu, at the suggestion of the Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu. The proposal was included in the agenda of the July 5 sitting by a majority of votes of the MPs. The Communist lawmakers are absent from the sitting, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“What’s happing in our country is beyond the limits of case law. A judge of an ordinary court now can overturn decisions of a higher court. The case concerning the validation of the seat of mayor of Dorin Chirtoaca was transferred to the Balti Court of Appeals for the reason that the judges of the Chisinau Court of Appeals take political decisions. This shows that the Supreme Court of Justice president deals with politics, not justice and acts not according to the law, but according to the pressure exerted on him, either financial or political. I propose discharging Ion Muruianu from the post and annulling his status of judge,” said Mihai Ghimpu. He earlier said that Ion Muruianu should be dismissed owing to the large number of cases lost by Moldova at the European Court of Human Rights.
In a meeting this morning, the Supreme Council of Magistrates also decided to request that the legislative body examine Ion Muruianu’s dismissal.
Ion Muruianu, who is now holding the post of Supreme Court of Justice president on an interim basis, is running for a new term in office, but the contest to fill the post is delayed owing to the negative appraisals of his work made by the Security and Information Service.
