Parliament will not sit on Thursday, Communists protest

The next sitting of Parliament will take place on July 12. Such a decision was taken by the parliamentary majority. On July 11, the Place of the Republic will host the third summit of EaP heads of state who are members of the European People’s Party (EPP). The Communist parliamentary group insisted that the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), which is a member of the EPP, should look for another building where to stage this event so that the legislature could hold its ordinary sitting on Thursday, IPN reports.

Communist MP Iurie Muntean said the summit is not official even if it involves heads of state. “They take part in this meeting as members of the European People’s Party and will not be here on an official visit. We demand that tomorrow’s sitting should take place,” he stated. His colleague Grigore Petrenko added that the presence of the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili is not welcome in Moldova.

The head of the Liberal-Democratic faction Valeriu Strelet replied that the Palace of the Republic is not the Parliament’s building. It is leased out and the costs associated with the summit are covered by the PLDM.

The presidents of Georgia and Armenia are expected to take part in the third summit of Eastern Partnership heads of state who are members of the EPP.
