The parliamentary coalition is to come together for a meeting in the morning of January 22 at the latest to decide if the protesters’ demand to hold early legislative elections can be fulfilled, protesters’ leaders said after a meeting with Head of Parliament Andrian Candu. The Speaker considers such a dialogue is important, IPN reports.

“I asked to call for calm – the institutions and the protesters should act calmly and peacefully, within the law. The legitimacy of the appointed Government is questioned. We consider the procedures were fully respected. The fact that the Government was invested is a good thing that is supported by the partners that pronounced on the issue in the course of the day. It is a Government that we consider technocratic and we think it deserves a chance to be allowed to bring benefits to the country,” said Andrian Candu.

As regards the demand to call early legislative elections, the Speaker said there are few reasons to hold such elections, but it was agreed that the issue will be discussed with the colleagues from the parliamentary coalition. He will transmit the provided arguments and will invite the representatives of protesters to a new meeting.

The leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said they obtained the promise that the parliamentary coalition will be convened this evening or tomorrow morning to consider the possibility of annulling the vote of confidence given to the Filip Government . “If they do not accept such a possibility and give a negative answer, more people will come here, in central Chisinau, and we will protest round the clock,” he stated.

Andrei Nastase, the leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, said he and his supporters will continue to protest. “I asked that the attacks on the protesters and the political opponents should be stopped. I informed the Speaker that the early elections are a solution for calming things down,” he stated.

The leader of the “Our Party” Renato Usatyi said that much more people will come to protest because an absolute majority of people want early elections.
