Parliamentary commission rejects proposal to sack judges responsible for ECHR fines
The Legal Commission has given a vote of disapproval to a proposal by a Democrat MP to dismiss judges responsible for decisions which led to Moldova being sanctioned by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Info-Prim Neo reports.
The rejection comes after the proposal was negatived by the Government, the General Prosecution's Office and the Supreme Court of Justice, which found that it was unconstitutional.
Democrat MP Iurie Bolboceanu in particular proposed dismissing the judges responsible for two or more cases lost by Moldova at the ECHR, noting that the Government of Moldova was sanctioned by the ECHR multiple times, and that entailed considerable damages.
As of 31 December 2011, the ECHR found the State of Moldova responsible for violations in 227 cases, ordering it to pay over 12.8 million euros in total.
