A part of the National Army’s ammo will be stored a new warehouse that will be built according to international standards. Authorities say that the need to build the new storage facility is determined by the fact that the current ones are too near to barracks and locations of troops deployment, which contravenes international standards for security distances, especially in cases of multinational military drills. Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta told Info-Prim Neo that the initial plan was for the warehouse to be built at the Bulboaca Training Center. It was later decided that it will be built near the military station in Danceni. “I think that Bulboaca is not the best option because there are many drills taking place there and it is also too near to the Security Zone”. He said that the warehouse design was being prepared in coordination with experts of the OSCE Mission. The costs will be estimated and announced most likely in the first quarter of 2013. The construction works will begin the same year, although a lot depends on the willingness of donors. “We want to solve the problem as soon as possible and will make the maximum effort in this regard”, said the Minister. The building of the new ammo warehouse is stipulated in the Memorandum signed by the Ministry of Defense and the OSCE Mission in Moldova regarding the implementation of the complex Program in the field of small caliber guns and light weapons signed in October 2010. Besides the building of the warehouse, the document stipulates the implementation of 7 separate projects of modernization of ammo warehouses in Floresti, Cahul, Balti and Chisinau, projects of destroying various kinds of bombs and the purchase of a mobile system for the visual verification of ammo warehouses. The program also includes trainings in the field of technical management of ammo.
