Party of Socialists will no more politically support PCRM

The Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM) will no longer support the Communist Party (PCRM) politically, the party’s president of honor, MP Veronica Abramchuk has said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “In the given situation, when the position of the Communist parliamentary group is aimed not at overcoming the political crisis, but at deepening it, not at defending the rights of the ordinary people, but at obtaining division and hatred in society, the executive of the PSRM refuses to continue politically supporting the PCRM,” Veronica Abramchuk said in a press briefing on Thursday. She said that at the start of the 1990s, the Socialists and the Agrarians legalized the PCRM with a view to strengthening the left movement, which had been supported during a number of election campaigns. In 2005, the Socialists, polling 5% of the vote in the parliamentary elections, decided to abandon the party interests in order to support the Communists in all the election campaigns of 2009-2010 so as to strengthen Moldova’s statehood. “The executive of the PSRM, analyzing the political events that took place over two years and a half ago, reached the conclusion that the decision to politically support the PCRM taken earlier was well-founded and timely,” said Veronica Ambramchuk. She also said that the position of the PCRM’s administration, namely of a narrow group of persons that adopts the main decisions in the party, has lately run counter to the national interests. “Instead of adopting a distinct and clear position for overcoming the political crisis in the country, the ‘decisional group’ of the PCRM employs dishonest practices, misleading the people and society. On the one hand, they say they are ready to hold negotiations with representatives of the ruling alliance, but on the other hand they torpedo any possibility of reaching a compromise and electing the head of state. In fact, the PCRM wants early legislative elections that may push the country towards a political and economic collapse,” said Veronica Abramchuk. According to the PSRM, a fist step in this direction was the PCRM’s cynical negligence of its own legislative initiative on the amendment of Article 78 of the Constitution, whereby it proposed gradually reducing the number of votes needed to elect the head of state. “The PCRM is against not only its previous statement, but also against strengthening the parliamentary form of government. This endangers the Constitution of Moldova, which the unionists aim to liquidate,” said Veronica Abramchuk. She stressed that in the context of the events related to the first attempt to elect the President of Moldova on November 18, when there was a real possibility of unlocking the political crisis, the PCRM confirmed its destructive position that fully coincides with the position of the Unionists-Liberals.
