The Democratic Party (PDM), according to the last financial report presented to the Central Election Commission, continues to be a champion in the illegal collection of money in cash. Secretary general of the Party “Action and Solidary” (PAS) Igor Grosu told a news conference that the PDM collected almost 19 million lei during the first six months of this year, IPN reports.
According to Igor Grosu, one year and a half of the implementation of the system for providing state funding to political parties, the collection of money from other sources than those stipulated by the law continues to be a serious problem for the political system. This practice in relation to the PDM is accepted by the state institutions that were captured by the current government that is managed by the leader of the PDM Vlad Plahotniuc from behind.
“In 2016, the PDM was a champion in the illegal collection of money with almost 30 million lei. The series of illegalities committed by this party continued in 2017. According to our estimates, the PDM collected almost 19 million lei by violating the legal norms. This money, in the conditions of the rule of law, should have been transferred to the state budget, but misinformation campaigns need to be financed, as well as the luxury trips of Vlad Plahotniuc and the lobbying companies that convince the Western politicians in favor of Vlad Plahotniuc,” stated Igor Grosu.
PAS leader Maia Sandu said that as long as the political parties are financed in a nontransparent way, the ruling parties will remain in power. “All the political parties should obey the law, which should be adjusted. We submitted concrete proposals in this regard, but the government rejects them. The responsible state institutions should enforce the legal provisions on party funding and should fulfill their duties,” she noted.
The party called on the Central Election Commission to apply all the legal instruments to determine the PDM to obey the legislation on party funding. It also called on the development partners that offer support to the CEC to use all the available instruments to determine the institution to fight corruption related to the party funding system.
