Passengers to receive compensations for canceled or delayed flights

Airlines will offer compensations and assistance to passengers whose flights have been cancelled or excessively delayed, under a regulation which was recently approved by the Government, Info-Prim Neo reports. The compensations will be as follows: €250 for flights of 1,500 km and shorter, €400 for flights between 1,500 and 3,500km, and €600 for all other flights. If the passengers are offered to reach the destination by another flight, the arrival time of which does not surpass the one of the booked flight, the compensation can be reduced by up to 50%. Additionally, the operators will have to offer passengers meals and beverages in the case of delayed or cancelled flights, at amounts directly proportional to the waiting time, as well as hotel accommodation, transportation from the airport from to the hotel, the right to two free phone calls or to send messages through fax or internet. The regulations sets out the airlines' obligation to inform passengers about their rights in the case of delayed or canceled flights. The regulation was elaborated in the context of adjusting the national legislation to the European one.
