PCRM accuses government of inability to manage situation on currency market

The Communist Party (PCRM) criticizes the government coalition for the situation on the currency market. In a statement, the party demands that the government should immediately take a larger number of economic and social measures, IPN reports.

The Communist MPs said the food prices increased following the depreciation of the national currency. The fuels grew dearer repeatedly before the spring works. Fuel prices are now by 14% higher than at the start of the year. The carriers also raised fares. It is expected that the charges on electricity, gas and other public utilities will increase as well.

“If you are unable to and don’t know what you should do in such situations, at least take into account the proposals formulated by the opposition,” the Communist lawmakers said, addressing the government coalition.

The PCRM suggests quarterly increasing, starting with the second quarter of the year, the tariff salary by 10% for the first category and by 50% for education employees; raising the pensions by at least 20% from April 1, scholarships by at least 20%, the lump sum childbirth payment to 5,000 lei, and doubling the child benefit.

The PCRM said there are budget incomes for implementing these measures, coming from the higher earnings following the appreciation of the dollar and euro against the Moldovan leu.
