PCRM challenges Urecheanu's appointment in Constitutional Court
The Communist Party (PCRM) requested the Constitutional Court to pronounce on the constitutionality of the decision to name Serafim Urecheanu as president of the Audit Office, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Serafim Urecheanu was appointed to the given post in breach of the law. A number of provisions of the Law on the Audit Office, especially as regards the imperative conditions and restrictions that should be taken into account when naming a member of the Audit Office, were violated,” said Communist MP Sergiu Sarbu, who filed the challenge on May 3.
According to the challenge, the new president of the Audit Office does not have the necessary studies and experience. “From moral viewpoint, it is not right for Serafim Urecheanu, who manages the supreme audit institution of the state, to have the nationality of another state,” said the Communist MP, referring to the Romanian nationality held by the ex-leader of the Moldova Noastra Alliance. Sergiu Sarbu also said that article 1, paragraph 3 of the Constitution says Moldova is a state of law and this provision is thus flagrantly violated.
On April 28, 2011, the PCRM demanded that the Constitutional Court rules on the constitutionality of provisions of the 2011 state budget law and of amendments to the legislation on the budgetary system and process.
