PCRM demands penalizing persons who dispossessed state of BEM

The Communist parliamentary group requested verifying the steps taken by the authorities in the case of Banca de Economii (BEM) and holding accountable the persons to blame for losing state control over this bank, IPN reports.

On September 13, the Communist lawmakers held hearings on the issue. Though being asked to provide information, the representatives of the Government, the National Bank, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy and the Prosecutor General’s Office didn’t come to the meeting.

Deputy head of the National Financial Market Commission (CNPF) Iurie Filip said the institution acted according to the law and there was no reason to refuse registering the additional share issue of Banca de Economii.

MP Artur Reshetnikov said the CNPF legalized a dubious transaction. The state was dispossessed of the majority holding in this bank. “The privatization process was concealed,” he stated. The leader of the Communist Party (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin accused the administration of the CNPF of obeying the orders of former Prime Minister Vlad Filat.

Lawmaker Victor Mandru said the actions taken to sell the state holding in the BEM are aimed against the people and the state. “The state lost millions of lei from the public property in one day. The act was well-planned and orchestrated by high-ranking officials from the Government,” he stated.

The PCRM demanded that the decision of the General Assembly of Shareholders of Banca de Economii be nullified and that the bank be nationalized.
