PCRM does not give up staging second Civic Congress on May 1
The Communist Party (PCRM) did not abandon the idea of mounting the Civic Congress, which was planned to take place in the Great National Assembly Square on May 1. They intend to stage it even if the Chisinau City Hall earlier announced that the Liberal Democratic Party was the first to submit an application and thus was allowed to hold a public event in the square on May 1, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The Civic Congress will take place in the Great National Assembly Square. We do not rule out that the City Hall will prevent us from setting up the scene. If need be, we will get onto improvised platforms in order to talk to the people who will come to the Congress,” Communist MP Sergiu Sarbu said in a news conference on Tuesday. About 40,000 people are expected to take part in the Congress. “But the current government already started to intimidate the carriers into not transporting people to the capital city,” he stated.
Under the law, the right to assemble in a particular place is given to the first applicant. The Chisinau administration said that the Liberal Democratic Party was the first to file an application to this effect. The same day, the Lib-Dems announced that they are ready to allow the National Confederation of Trade Unions to demonstrate in the central square of Chisinau alongside them on May 1, when it is celebrated the International Workers’ Day.
