PCRM files two challenges to CEC

The Communist Party (PCRM) submitted two challenges to the Central Election Commission (CEC, accusing the Democratic Party (PDM) of violating the electoral legislation and the channels Publika TV and Prime TV of favoring the PDM in their programs, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the PCRM.

In the first challenge, the PCRM says that on October 5 the PDM staged an event to present the party’s candidates for seats of MP, where it used the party symbols and the electoral slogan “We build Moldova!”. Holding this event constituted a breach of article 47, paragraph 3 of the Election Code, which says that electoral advertising is allowed only after the electoral authority registers the applicants as election runners. The PDM and the other contenders only submitted the documents to the CEC and haven’t been yet officially registered.

In the second challenge, the PCRM accuses Publika TV and Prime TV of favoring the PDM in the programs “Fabrika” and “Top news”. The two TV channels violate the principle of equitable, balanced and impartial coverage of the election campaign by allotting more airtime to one contender.

The Communists asked the Central Election Commission to take all the legal measures to exclude the intentional favoring by the mass media of one election runner and to strictly monitor the situation so that the legal provisions concerning the elections are obeyed by all the political organizations.
