PCRM questions constitutionality of law whereby pensioning system was modified
Communist MP Sergiu Sarbu submitted an application to the Constitutional Court, asking that it verify the constitutionality of the law whereby the length of service required before retirement was increased from 30 to 35 years.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Sergiu Sarbu said this law will deprive a large part of the Moldovan people of pension as they will not have the necessary length of service when they reach retirement age. The PCRM considers that the given law flagrantly violates a number of constitutional norms, defies the fundamental human rights, and unjustifiably annuls the social guarantees obtained earlier legally and this seriously affects the quality of life of these persons.
”We consider that this law, popularly called the law of death because the people will die before retiring, infringes the fundamental human rights and flouts a number of constitutional norms. We requested the Constitutional Court to examine the issue as a matter of urgency,” said Sergiu Sarbu.
Under the law, the Constitutional Court can examine the application within six months.
The mentioned law increases the retirement age for a number of salary earners, civil servants, military men, police officers, judges, and prosecutors, diminishes the base for calculating the pension and abolishes a series of allowances.
