“The Party of Communists (PCRM) has real chances of coming into power again, but only if we improve the party’s image”, declared Igor Dodon, former mayoral candidate in Chisinau, during the PCRM Central Committee's assembly at the end of last week, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“It’s important that until the next parliamentary elections we come with a modernized, attractive image, in order to gain the trust and liking of new categories of voters. Considering the economic, political and social crises that became chronic over the last two years, our party has real chances of coming into power again, but only if we improve its image”, said Dodon.
He was confident as to PCRM’s victory odds. “But if we don’t take measures to address our internal issues, if we don’t deal with some schemers and saboteurs, if we don’t seriously consider people’s wishes, including those of thousands of party members, who request the modernization of the party, then the unpleasant memories of the past election campaign will generate worries and doubts in the future”, the former mayoral candidate said.
According to Dodon, PCRM urgently needs strengthening and efficient internal affairs management. He expressed his readiness to contribute to the party modernization, as much as the party leadership finds his involvement necessary. “In this campaign, I have proven I can be a fighter and reliable person for my colleagues. I'd like to believe that I can trust all the party members as well, especially those with important management functions at different levels”, he said.
Igor Dodon’s suggestions were made as part of his assessment of the campaign results. On one hand, he labeled the results “impressive”, as PCRM and its candidates obtained “the most resounding results in the history of our campaigns for Chisinau”. “We got a record number of votes. We got the majority in the Chisinau Municipal Council and won the trust of most residents. As mayoral candidate, I managed to win the biggest number of votes ever obtained by a PCRM candidate”, declared Igor Dodon.
On the other hand, he blamed the defeat on “electoral frauds by political opponents” and on “last-minute compromising scandals”. “There are some unanswered questions about the PCRM's municipal councilors list. Who chose them? Who guaranteed for some councilors who became so 'popular' over the last days? Why did the executive secretary insist on including Tofan in the list? What were the true reasons behind the promotion of such members and who should pay for it?”, asked Igor Dodon.
Further, he accused some important people within PCRM of sabotage. “Some secretaries of local party committees in Chisinau should present explanations, as their activity could be only described as sabotage. In some cases, our members openly worked against the PCRM candidate”, Dodon said.
“There is an opinion, which is known both within and outside the party, that the other half of the city’s inhabitants voted not against Dodon and not even for Chirtoaca or the Liberals, but against the Communists. This is a signal we must speed things up to modernize the party”, said Igor Dodon in concluding his speech.
