The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) presented its platform for the November 30 parliamentary elections. The party’s leader Marian Lupu said the platform contains measures that guarantee economic growth and solutions for protecting families and reasserts the support for the European development course and the respect for the Moldovan traditions.
The document was presented within the symposium “Moldova’s European future: a social-democratic agenda” that involved European partners, representatives of the Party of European Socialists and Moldovan political analysts and experts, IPN reports.
“The PDM showed that it knows and can govern Moldova for the people’s benefit. We achieved concrete results confirming that the PDM is a serious party with good specialists and professionals in all the areas of activity,” said the party’s leader. “We are preparing for government and thus present a serious electoral platform formulated by our experts, which starts from what we did and aims to achieve our objective for the country: Moldova’s growth.”
The platform consists of 12 chapters and contains proposals received by the Democrats from the people. “Our strategy is based on the stimulation of economy, ensuring of well-paid jobs and increase in budget revenues so as to protect the families,” said Marian Lupu. The PDM suggests exempting firms from paying taxes on up to 12% of their revenues and private individuals living below the subsistence level from paying the income tax.
The head of the PDM Women’s Organization Valentina Buliga, suspended minister of labor, social protection and family, said the party will struggle to ensure the welfare of every family and to eliminate domestic violence, including by doubling penalties.
PDM deputy chairman Igor Corman, Head of Parliament, said the Democratic Party will continue to be a powerful supporter of the European integration because it means welfare, stability and freedom. The future government must keep the course to the EU, but should also maintain good relations with Russia.
In order to support the Moldovans who are abroad, the PDM will provide a grant of €10,000 for additional investments to any Moldovan who will return home and will want to invest at least €10,000 in a business. The party also intends to eliminate the customs duties on the goods brought home by the Moldovans who worked abroad.
The Democrats consider the modernization of road infrastructure must be one of the priorities of the future government. The PDM will propose building ring roads bypassing the municipality of Chisinau and minimum 10 district centers and modernizing at least 500 km of national roads during the next four years and at least one road in every village of Moldova.
Attending the event, the president of the Party of European Socialists Sergei Stanishev said that the PDM’s platform is comprehensive and very important and that his party promotes the same values as the PDM, which supports the rise in investments, the farmers and the families. The November elections are very important for the path chosen by Moldova.
Over the last few weeks, the Democrats discussed the measures proposed by the PDM’s specialists with people from Moldova’s settlements and gathered proposals for improving the party’s platform from them.
