More than 2,000 members of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) took part in the launch of the party’s election campaign preceding the parliamentary elections on October 5, IPN reports.
“We are developing Moldova so that every Moldovan wants to live in this country and wants to return to it. We have great ambitions for Moldova. Our country can become a success in Eastern Europe. The PDM is the party of economic growth and of families. The PDM believes in Moldova. We believe in Moldova’s power to succeed,” said the party’s chairman Marian Lupu.
Messages of support for the Democrats were delivered by the party’s international partners and friends, including secretary general of the Socialist International Luis Ayala, who represents the Democrat Party of Italy, vice president of the European Socialists Giacomo Filibeck and president of the Party of European Socialists Sergei Stanishchev. All the foreign invitees encouraged the Democrats to trust their own forces and praised the team running on the party’s list. “You are the party that brought Moldova to Europe, among the important players of this new world that we, the Social Democrats, want to realize,” stated Luis Ayala.
The PDM’s president of honor Dumitru Diacov said the Democratic Party was conceived as a force that would build Moldova and would bring peace and cooperation. “Eighteen years ago we set off with several thousand members. Today we have over 50,000 members. We are a force on which the country’s fate will depend. The PDM is becoming a solid party inside and wants to transmit this thing to society,” he stated.
For his part, the deputy chairman of the PDM Igor Corman said the party pelages to continue to build a European, prosperous and modern Moldova, noting that the party’s power is in the fact that the PDM has a plan and has motivation to fulfill it.
