The Democratic Party (PDM) supports the 14 MPs who left the Party of Communists (PCRM) this morning in their intention to create a Social-Democratic platform. “It is a welcome gesture, especially in the current tense political situation,” the Democrats’ leader Mariana Lupu said in a press briefing, quoted by IPN.
“I think these MPs showed maturity and responsibility for Moldova’s future. I welcome such a gesture made by our colleagues from Parliament, even if they are from another party. I refer not to the decision to leave the PCRM, but to the intention to take part in the formation of a new parliamentary majority,” said the politician, noting that this intention could become a political and social project the coming days.
Marian Lupu believes the benefits are very clear: a larger number of votes means a more powerful voice, stability, consistent support for the new Government in doing reforms and in electing the head of state in spring, which means stability during the next few years.
The Democrats will organize the first technical meeting with the 14 MPs in the evening of December 21. “We decided to invite the colleagues who made the announcement in the morning to a technical meeting. The PDM will be represented by a group headed by our colleague Vlad Plahotniuc. At this meeting, we want to find out our colleagues’ view about the creation of this platform. Such a platform can represent the nucleus of a pro-European parliamentary majority. I hope we will finish the discussions by this weekend so as to be able to sign an agreement to form a Social-Democratic platform in Moldova’s Parliament,” stated Marian Lupu.
At the meeting with the head of state that is to start at 2pm, the Democrats will say that they could secure consistent support for forming the Government and for electing the head of state. According to Marian Lupu, the PDM will make effort to attract more MPs to this platform.
