Penalties for lawmakers

Forty-four MPs who were absent from the July 22 sitting of Parliament without reason will be penalized, IPN reports, quoting the legislature’s press service.

Those who were absent included 34 Communist lawmakers, the Liberal-Democrats Simion Grishchuk, Veaceslav Ionita, and Lilian Zaporojan, the Democrats Gheorghe Brashovschi, Stella Jantuan, and Oleg Sarbu, Liberal-Reformist lawmaker Ana Gutu and unaffiliated MPs Iurie Bolboceanu, Igor Dodon, and Zinaida Grecheanyi.

The head of the Parliament’s commission on human rights and interethnic relations Vadim Misin is the only MP who asked for leave from July 21, while MP Boris Vieru is on sick leave.

The lawmakers who unjustifiably missed the July 22 sitting will not receive the allowance for attending the plenary sittings. Under the Parliament’s Regulations, the MPs who are absent from three sittings during a month without reason are cut 50% of the monthly salary, while those who are absent from four and more sittings - 75% of the salary.
