People’s Movement “Antimafie” seeks international audit at Moldtelecom

The People’s Movement “Antimafie” demands performing an international audit at the national telecoms carrier Moldtelecom. In a news conference at IPN, “Antimafie” leader Sergiu Mocanu said that there are plans to sell the company.

Sergiu Mocanu said the goal of a recent visit paid by a delegation of the Democratic Party to China was to negotiate the sale of Moldtelecom. He called on Prime Minister Iurie Leanca to provide public explanations why he offered a governmental power to this delegation.

The politician said that Moldtelecom is controlled by the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc, who will enjoy financial benefits when the company is sold. Earlier Vlad Plahotniuc had tried two times to sell Moldtelecom, but the People’s Movement “Antimafie” thwarted his plans. “An international audit is needed as we risk losing strategic control over communications,” stated Sergiu Mocanu.

He underlined that he will consider it a personal victory if he manages to foil Vlad Plahotniuc’s plans the third time.

The leader of “Antimafie” also said that allowing selling Banca de Economii and the Chisinau International Airport is his personal failure and the failure of the Movement and the whole society. Everyone wonders why the privatization of property in Moldova involves eastern companies at a time when we are coming closer to the EU. According to him, this is because those from the EU do not pay additional money to intermediaries for taking over companies.

In parallel with Moldtelecom, Sergiu Mocanu demanded carrying out an audit at the bakery complex “Franzeluta”, where the state owns shares, as this company is to be sold by this November’s parliamentary elections.
