The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) says that it hasn’t taken legal action, hasn’t authorized and hasn’t requested judges of inquiry to authorize special investigation measures in relation to judges of the Constitutional Court. The clarification was made following postings by which politicians signal alleged special investigation measures against constitutional judges, IPN reports.

In a press release, the PGO says the information presented by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Security and Intelligence Service and the National Anticorruption Center shows that none of these institutions took such measures.

“To clarify the situation, the authors of these serious accusations will be invited to the PGO to provide evidence in support of their assertions, not yet before being explained that they will bear responsibility if they make false and calumnious statements,” runs the press release.

The PGO warns about the necessity of assuming responsibility for the accuracy of the disseminated information and about the legal procedures for notifying the law enforcement agencies of the commission of offenses.

On a social networking site, the leader of the Action and Solidarity Party Maia Sandu wrote that “the party is informed by law enforcement agencies that Igor Dodon and his accomplices launched a real hunt for judges of the Constitutional Court”. The politician noted that “the state machinery was activated to look for reasons for exerting pressure on judges and members of their families in an attempt to impose a decision that suits the Socialists in the Russian loan case.”

Her party mate, MP Sergiu Litvinenco wrote that “from reliable sources from inside law enforcement agencies, he learned that special investigation measures have been taken in relation to several judges of the Constitutional Court. The judges are followed nonstop by employees of two state institutions, in order to intimidate them, of course.”
