The Liberal Party (PL) asked the Constitutional Court to interpret an article of the Constitution, which describes the court’s powers. According to MP Valeriu Munteanu, the Constitutional Court must be informed about the unconstitutionality of certain laws or decisions before they are published in the Official Gazette, not after they start to be implemented, IPN reports.
“Until now, everyone understood that these laws can be disputed only after they are published in the Official Gazette. Unfortunately, this standpoint caused serious damage to democracy in Moldova. There are laws and Government decision that have negative effects after they are published and the situation cannot be appropriately remedied when they are declared unconstitutional,” stated Valeriu Munteanu.
The Liberals suggest that the laws should be examined by the Constitutional Court before they take effect.
