The Liberal Party Wednesday presented its team of candidates for rural and urban mayors' offices and councils. The event took place in the open air, in front of the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great in central Chisinau, and involved several hundreds of people, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In his speech, first vice president of the Liberal Party, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the PL aims to sustainably develop the settlements and create workplaces, build modern road and public transport infrastructure, renovate the buildings, finance the villages in order to reduce the discrepancy between villages and towns, socially protect the poor, and continue the programs to support the socially underprivileged groups of people.
After Dorin Chirtoaca gave his speech, dozens of candidates of the PL spoke about their plans to improve the living conditions in rural areas, implement in their settlements projects that were successful in Chisinau, like the First House project and road rehabilitation projects.
In his closing discourse, PL president Mihai Ghimpu said the local elections for the Liberal Party are as important as the legislative elections. “After the removal of the Communists from power in 2009, we must strengthen the Democratic and Liberal power through the local elections. The change started in 2007, when Dorin Chirtoaca won the mayoral elections in Chisinau,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
The Democratic Party opened its election campaign the same day. The PDM's candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Valentina Buliga announced that she left the post of Minister of Labor for the period of the election campaign.
