PLDM confirms talks about early elections with PCRM were held

The PLDM confirmed that during the political crisis they had discussions with the PCRM about the possibility of holding early parliamentary elections if the crisis wasn’t overcome. The party issued a communiqué after Communist MPs announced that they and the Liberal-Democrats reached an agreement concerning the holding of early elections on November 3, 2013, IPN reports.

“The PLDM announced publicly that if the Leanca Government is not voted in, the early elections will be inevitable. In this context, the PLDM’s commitment was to create conditions for holding free and fair elections, without the involvement of state institutions in this process,” reads the communiqué.

The PLDM notes that the aggressiveness and categorical attitude of some of the political parties inevitably leads to a greater division of society and this thing cannot be accepted. According to the party, the Republic of Moldova now needs all the constructive forces with positive and pro-European views to unite so that the reforms needed to ensure better living conditions for all the people are implemented.

The PLDM also says that the fielding of Iurie Leanca for the post of Prime Minister points to the party’s firm commitment to ensure a European future for Moldova.

In a news conference on June 3, Communist MPs said that under the agreements reached with the Liberal-Democrats, early parliamentary elections were to take place on November 3. They said the PCRM agreed with the PLDM and PDM to sign a joint statement on early elections and then every party was to make public their decisions, but the two parties changed their minds in the last moment.
