PLDM in favor of electing head of state by direct vote
The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat said that his party is for the election of the head of state by popular vote, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The problem of election of the President is too serious to be treated by negotiations and meetings where to look for solutions. A referendum should be held to amend Article 78 of the Constitution (which defines the procedure for electing the head of state – e.n.),” Vlad Filat said in a press briefing.
The Premier also said that if such a referendum is held, the PLDM will take part only if there is introduced the provision that the head of state must be elected by direct vote.
