PLDM launches Week of Democracy and Local Self-Government

During a week, mayors, district heads and local councilors representing the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) will discuss the problems faced by the people with the central authorities, within the Week of Democracy and Local Self-Government, IPN reports.

MP Tudor Deliu, who heads the Association of Local Elected Officials of the PLDM, told a news conference that the event is aimed at setting new priorities and at improving the cooperation between the local and central authorities. “The PLDM always laid emphasis on regional development and the modernization of villages and towns, which is the quintessence of a modern and prosperous state to which we aspire,” he stated.

He added that workshops will be held daily during this week. The Week of Democracy and Local Self-Government will close on February 9 in Ungheni town, with the Forum of Local Elected Officials of the PLDM.

The mayor of Ungheni Alexandru Ambros said the workshops will center on problems related to road infrastructure, lighting and water supply, while the forum is a motivation to work at a steady pace so that the town remains an example of modernization and regional development.

The mayor of Colonita Angela Zaporojan said that these workshops have only one goal – to improve the lives of people. “The people must feel the effects of the European integration,” she stated, adding that this dialogue is very important for identifying and dealing with all the problems.

The Ungheni Forum of Local Elected Officials of the PLDM will involve about 900 local and central elected officials of the total of over 3,700.

The day of local self-government and local public administration workers was instituted in February 2012.
