The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) said it cannot accept the application of double standards with respect to the Constitution and considers Article 13 should be mandatorily amended so that “the Moldovan language” is substituted with “the Romanian language”. As to the accusations of blackmail made by the Democratic Party against the pro-European parties that didn’t support the bill to enshrine the European course in the Constitution, the PLDM said it cannot accept particular things for the sake of the electoral interests of the PSRM-PDM duo, IPN reports.
In an statement addressed to the people, the PLDM says the European integration is the result of the decisions taken by the citizens and the European institutions, not by a political party. “The insistence with which they try to manipulate the national and international public opinion by introducing the “European integration” phrase reveals the cynicism of the current government and the lack of respect for the citizens,” said the party.
The PLDM reminds that it earlier asked that the PDM should fulfil the EU’s recommendations addressed to the government of Moldova, namely to restore the proportional representation system and to recognize the election of the mayor of Chisinau as a proof of the commitment to the European civilization, but the PDM didn’t do this.
The MPs of the Liberal Party, the Liberal Democratic Party, the Party of Socialists and the Party of Communists didn’t support the bill to amend the Constitution and enshrine the European course in it. The initiative garnered only 54 votes in favor at a time when a constitutional amendment proposal is carried by the votes of 67 MPs.
