The MPs of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) described the case of ex-Premier Vlad Filat, the circumstances in which this was arrested and the conditions in which he is held to the co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. They noted that the hearings are transformed into a show that involves an excessive number of armed persons, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the party.
“Vlad Filat’s detention became a media show. For us, it’s clear that this case is political in character and its goal is to fully isolate Vlad Filat. We are concerned about the way in which the case is examined and do not expect that MP Vlad Filat will enjoy a fair trial. Therefore, the parliamentary group of the PLDM considers that the hearings must be public,” stated the PLDM’s deputy chairman Vadim Pistrinciuc.
In the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the political developments, with the representatives of the PLDM noting that the power is concentrated in the hands of one person. “It is a clear example of establishment, in the 21st century, of a totalitarian regime controlled by one person. We are concerned about the political future of the country. Of the 56 MPs who form part of the so-called alliance, 24 represent no party. We understand that their goal is to gain full control,” said the acting chairman of the PLDM Valeriu Strelet.
The PACE co-rapporteurs, who are paying a visit to Moldova during February 22- 23, inquired about the method of communication with MP Vlad Filat, given that this has the right to vote, and about other important aspects related to this case.
