PM Iurie Leanca solitarily topped rankings of 50 most influential politicians over a year

During the past year, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca has solitarily topped the rankings of the 50 most influential politicians in Moldova. In July, the Premier was also at the top the rankings compiled by the Institute for Political Analysis and Consultancy “Politicon”, IPN reports.

According to the analysts of “Politicon”, the Prime Minister’s position in the rankings shows his real place in the Government. Iurie Leanca continues to be appreciated by the public opinion, mainly owing to the support offered to him by commentators and the favorable opinions about him among the Moldovan political class.

Head of Parliament and deputy chairman of the Democratic Party (PDM) Igor Corman in April climbed two spots to the second. This climb is normal in a month when the legislature dominated the political life in Moldova. Igor Corman is more confident and becomes a notable leader of the PDM, with pronounced capacities of electoral driving force for the November 30 legislative elections.

The chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat ranked third despite the denigrating campaign against him carried out by his political opponents in a move to reduce the influence of the PLDM on the pro-European voters in Moldova.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman came fourth as the foreign minister, in the current political and geopolitical context, cannot be absent from among the most influential politicians in Moldova.

Minister of Education Maia Sandu took the fifth position owing to her efforts to promote the reform of one of the most difficult social sectors in Moldova – education. She has the reputation of the most intransigent reformist politician in Moldova.

President Nicolae Timofti came sixth and his position remained high despite the controversial decision to give state awards to a group of Moldovan politicians.

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca and the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin slipped by one spot compared with June. Dorin Chirtoaca is traditionally considered a Moldovan politician with great prospects. Voronin’s fall is explained by the difficult period through which the Communist Party goes after an internal revolt.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov raked ninth as he was the focus of attention following the bans imposed by Russia.

Minister of Economy and deputy chairman of the PDM Adrian Candu closes the list of the top ten politicians. He is among the ten most popular politicians the second time.

The forma leader of the PDM Marian Lupu ranked 11th, while the party’s first deity chairman Vladimir Plahotniuc 13th. The Democrats’ leader continues to neglect the public appearances and this affects his political rating.

The July rankings were compiled with the involvement of 28 experts.
