Police optimistic about solving recent high-profile crimes

Presenting the progress made in resolving a number of recent crimes that have enjoyed tons of publicity, Interior Ministry representatives on Wednesday showed much optimism about their chances of bringing the perpetrators to justice, Info-Prim Neo reports. Alexandru Pinzari, deputy head of the Department against Organized Crime, said the assassination of the Ceadir-Lunga councilman Sergei Ganev, found dead in a forest on May 8, will be resolved shortly, as the police have already identified and are preparing to arrest the suspected murderer, the director of a bank where the councilman was keeping his money. Alexandru Pinzari said a group was deployed abroad to arrest the suspect, who allegedly took all Ganev's money, over 4 million lei, and hit the road together with his wife and two children to Ukraine and further to Russia. Concerning the crime in Ialoveni, where a man was shot dead and another one injured at a filling station, Alexandru Pinzari said the suspect has been identified and “active actions” are taken to find and apprehend him. “He will be arrested in the near future”, assured Pinzari In the case of Igor Turcanu's assassination, two witnesses were identified who claimed that the exploded car which killed the former president of the Tennis Federation had been imported to Moldova by ex-police officer Ion Stratulat, who was later murdered at a Chisinau bar. Pinzari stated that Stratulat was also involved in the murder of businessman Igor Basarab. “As you already know, before his murder Basarab said he was afraid Stratulat could order his assassination”, said Pinzari. The police said they have enough evidence in all these cases and their resolution is around the corner.
