PPDA leader Andrei Nastase on visit to Washington

The leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPDA) Andrei Nastase had meetings with high-ranking officials of the U.S. Department of State and Congress commissions and with representatives of NGOs within a visit to Washington. The meetings centered on the political, social and economic problems faced by Moldova, IPN reports.

“I call on the U.S. Congress and NGO community to exert pressure for political, social and economic reforms to be done in Moldova and to support the free media of Moldova. Only in such conditions can we hope for responsibility, transparency and veritable and functional democracy in Moldova,” stated Andrei Nastase.

In the meetings, the politician spoke about situations when the U.S. assistance for Moldova – millions of US dollars provided through the U.S. Department of State, the International Monetary Fund and through USAID financing – was misused and abused.

The PPDA leader’s visit to the United States included hearings within the investigation initiated into the banking frauds and laundering of billions of dollars.
