Members and supporters of the Political Party “Our Party” (PPPN) mounted a protest within which they demanded that President Nicolae Timofti should resign and that the increased electricity tariffs should be annulled. These chanted “Decrease the tariffs!” “Down with Timofti!” and “We want early elections!”, IPN reports.
The protesters gathered together in front of the Presidential Building from where they went on a march to the State Residence of the President. “We came here because we have slept in tents for over a month, but neither the head of state, nor his representatives came to discuss with us. We want the President to hear us,” said a protester.
After talking to members of the President’s Staff, representatives of the protesters entered the State Residence to transmit a petition with the demand to tender his resignation to Nicolae Timofti. They said that if the President does not leave, they are ready to put up tents in front of the State Residence.
After the protest, the people went to the National Agency for Energy Regulation, where they demanded that the higher electric power tariffs should be annulled and that the state control over the thermoelectric sector should be restored.
