PPRM welcomes civil society’s initiative to launch Platform “Pro Europe”

The People’s Party of Moldova (PPRM), given the importance of the provisions of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU for transforming the country into a prosperous and modern state, welcomes the civil society’s initiative to launch the Platform “Pro Europe” and confirms its commitment to support the process of modernizing Moldova in European style and to monitor the actions taken to implement the Association Agreement, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the party.

The PPRM says now that the Association Agreement with the EU was signed, the Government, regardless of its political affiliation, must make sure that the measures to transform Moldova into a really democratic state, with developed and sustainable economy and with independent justice and corruption-free state institutions, are taken. Only by achieving such standards at home, can our county become eligible for the status of candidate for accession to the EU.

For the purpose, the PPRM considers it necessary to immediately do reforms in all the social-economic spheres by: identifying a new predictable and durable development model for our country, which would demonopolize the economic activity and would eliminate underground economy, would remove the constraints on businesses and would establish an attractive investment climate. The people should enjoy guaranteed workplaces and welfare, equitable social policies, pensions and benefits set in accordance with the minimum subsistence level, reforms in education and healthcare. Agriculture plays a special role in this process as, if it is modernized, it will become the main driving force of the national economy.

The European integration must be perceived as a model for Europeanizing Moldova and should not be confused with free movement in the European area. Each citizen has the right to work in their country and the state is obliged to ensure decent living conditions for the people.

Making common cause with the civil society’s initiative, the PPRM calls on the representatives of the ruling alliance to show responsibility and to ratify the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU as soon as possible.

On June 30, over 50 nongovernmental organizations, civic platforms and foundations signed a public declaration in support of the European path of Moldova and launched the Civil Society Platform “Pro Europe”, which is open to all those who share the European values and ideals. The representatives of civil society call on Parliament to immediately ratify the Associating Agreement with the EU and to make all the necessary efforts to obtain the status of EU membership candidate.
