President asks for confirmation of signatures of parliamentary majority

President Nicolae Timofti requested the parliamentary majority to confirm the signatures put in support of the candidate for Prime Minister. According to the presidential press service, the head of state made such a request following reports that some of the MPs withdrew their signatures from the statement in support of Vladimir Plahotniuc, IPN reports.

Thus, the President is waiting for the signatures to be confirmed by 9pm on January 14 so as to see if the conditions of formalizing the parliamentary majority are met.

The head of state makes reference to a Constitutional Court decision providing that the parliamentary majority must be formed in a transparent way so that the voters could identify the political players responsible for governance. Therefore, the parliamentary majority is to be formalized, not only declared, while the MPs who form it should be named by specifying their readiness to support a candidate for premiership, while the President of the Republic of Moldova should be officially notified of this.

Today, January 14, Liberal-Democratic MPs Gheorghe Mocanu, Aliona Gota and Mihaela Spataru announced that they decided to withdraw their signatures from the statement in support of the candidacy of Vladimir Plahotniuc for the post of Prime Minister.
