The signing of the contract with ZAO “Moldavskaya GRAS” for the supply of electrical energy to the Republic of Moldova is a good step that can lead to the cheapening of power in the country, said President Igor Dodon, quoted by IPN.
Igor Dodon told the press it is good that a lower price was obtained and that the intermediaries were excluded as the latter were like offshore companies that made profit. There is now only the producer and the consumers in the Republic of Moldova.
The President commented also on the assertions that new debts for gas will be accumulated following the signing of this contract. These debts now total US$6.5 billion. “The right side of the Nistru has current debts for gas that are paid. We never paid and will not pay the debts of the left side of the Nistru to Gazprom”, he stated.
In another development, President Dodon said that during his recent visit to St. Petersburg, he had a meeting with the president of Gazprom Alexei Miller, with whom he discussed the possibility of supplying gas at lower tariffs to Moldova as of January 1, 2018.
On June 6, the state-run power company “Energocom” announced that it signed a contract for the supply of power to Moldova with “Moldavskaya GRAS” of Transnistria. The contract took effect on June 5 and will be valid until March 31, 2018, as is the contract signed with Ukrain’s DTEK “Traiding” at the end of March.
