President Nicolae Timofti signed a decree to promulgate the law to amend and supplement the Election Code, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.
Under the new provisions, that those who will run for the post of President will have to collect 15,000 signatures in their support. The minimum voter turnout was reduced to 1/3. The date of elections must be set within 30 days of the expiration of the term in office of the incumbent President.
The Election Code had to be amended after the Constitutional Court restored the people’s right to choose the Head of State themselves. The presidential elections were set for October 30, 2016.
