Prime Minister’s car attacked with burning object
A 23 year old man threw a burning object at the Prime Minister’s car in the official vehicle column, where German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s car was as well, reports Info-Prim Neo.
According to a press release of the Ministry of the Interior (MAI), the incident took place on August 22 in the evening, on Mihai Viteazul Street, near the Bucuria Factory. The police managed to arrest the young man. No other violations took place on Wednesday. Over 2000 officers of MAI were deployed to maintain the public order. The police attended all the routes of the official delegation and the surrounding areas.
Apartment blocks, company and organizations headquarters, bridges, underground passages and other structures in 100 meter radius from the official routes were studied thoroughly and the necessary security measures were taken, including the welding of manholes.
On the main routes, a restricted circulation regime was enforced for about an hour (cumulatively) during the whole day. Only the Zero Zone, in the perimeter of the Palace of the Republic (the streets Nicolae Iorga, 31 August 1989, Maria Cebotari and Bucuresti), was under restricted regime the whole day.
On August 22, the German Chancellor visited Chisinau and met with Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the leaders of the parliamentary parties. She also delivered a speech at the Palace of the Republic.
